Th lies of another
The next day it rained. Rain poured from the sky; rain pounded the fields. It was as if the sky had split apart and it would rain forever. But Alex couldn’t wait any longer, while Mrs Hill muttered away. Outside, the rain soaked Alex to the skin. Not a single crevice was left dry. He searched the village, and the fields, calling and calling. Only the roars of the wind replied to him.
He stopped at Mrs Wink’s house and asked if she had seen Jacob. She knew everything that went on in the village. Mrs Wink was at her window watching. “Don’t come in here, dripping all over my kitchen floor,” she snapped, thinking that her kitchen floor was messed up.
“Sorry Mrs Wink, have you seen Jacob Li, this morning,” said Alex politely.
“No,” she curtly replied, closing the door in his face.
Maybe Jacob had returned to Shadow again? After all, he did love animals. Maybe he had found the courage to go back? Now, this all happened about 87 years ago. Jacob had returned. somehow, he had got over his fear and had come back with a coney that he’s snared. They are all gone now. Billy died in France in the war of 1945. He still dreams of the Shadow of the woods that lives inside of his heart forever. A dark ghost now in the night of my life. A friendship made out of chaos.
