The Legend Of Podkin One-Ear
Chapter One
The Subtle Knife
As the battle commenced the three rabbits’ mother, Laz, dragged them all the way to the dusty bedroom. Rook sat cutely on the floor as Raskin and Rasco looked around.
“Why did you drag us here mother? Father is going to die to Gorm! And we can walk, you know.” Shouted Raskin. Rook sat unknowingly. Mother Laz didn’t reply as she seemed to be looking for something. After a few minutes of Laz searching the room, she gave Raskin a wrapped up cloth and gave Rasco a map and a sack. None of them opened anything, they were too sad to. They knew that mother was going to send them away. Apart from Rook of course, he’s just a young kitten. Laz pulled a book from the bookshelf and the wall opened. It was a tunnel. They didn’t want to leave but they knew they had to. They said their goodbyes and entered the tunnel.
They could hear faint footsteps coming up the stairs very slowly. As Raksin argued about staying or not while Rook relentlessly cried wanting his father. Only Rasco was willing to go into the tunnel. Gorm was on the same floor as them. Laz pushed them further in the tunnel as fast as she could, shut the door and locked it.
The rabbits were equipped and ready for the journey, at least Rasco was. Rasco gave the sack to Raskin so she could carry Rook. After minutes of them not being able to start the journey, Raskin took the lead. They started the journey through the labyrinth of tunnels. He had no idea where he was leading them but he was sure it was the right way to go. They kept going and going and going. Still going. The tunnel was long and Raskin was being a bad leader so Rasco took over as she had the map. Raskin slowed down to have a peak of what was wrapped in the cloth. A knife.
“Rasco, look!” Shouted Raskin. Rasco came over and saw a knife in her brother’s hands. She also saw a note. It read:
My dearest children, if you are reading this that means that Gorm has taken over the warren. I will tell you about the knife. The knife was a gift from the Goddess, it will cut through anything but iron. Use it wisely and don’t die.
They stared at the knife for a moment. Then looked up and saw the end of the tunnel but it was night time so they decided to rest as they knew it was safest. They ate some food and suddenly got tired. As they drifted off to sleep they could hear sudden footsteps…
Chapter Two
Raven Wood
Raskin, Rasco and Rook woke up, it was a cold windy morning. They got up, collected their things and walked to the mouth of the tunnel. They walked outside slowly and heard a slight rumble… “THE GORM!” Screamed Rasco. The Gorm was coming, it had found the tunnel. It stood before the mouth. Unexpectedly, rocks began falling. Collapsing the mouth of the tunnel, blocking the Gorms way. They looked surprised. Raskin grabbed the knife and walked to a tree. The knife **** through like butter. The tree fell onto the tunnel blocking it even more. Rasco looked around in thought.
She took out the map. Their plan was to get to Ravenwood Warren, they had to go through Grimheart Grove and climb Cranberry Cliffs then they’re there. They started the cold journey.
“That’s a weird looking crow?”Questioned Raskin. Then, Rasco figured it out. It was one of the Gorm’s!
They ran, Raskin armed with the knife in hand and sack on back and Rasco with Rook in a pouch in the map. Finally, they entered Grimheart Grove. The crow could no longer see them, there was a roof of trees.
Rook tucked himself further in the pouch, with only his ears poking out, it was so dark. Outside, Raskin looked fearless but inside he was really terrified. Then, Rasco heard something. It was just a tree luckily, or was it just Rook shivering and screaming for food? At this pont she had no idea. Raskin could see the light.
It was Cranberry Cliffs! They were so close. They just needed to climb the mountain… They regretted everything, only two steps up. They kept going, forcing themselves to keep moving. Two steps from the door. Finally.
They knocked loudly. It was Lady Black, the chieftains wife! She let them in. She gave them food without a word. It was like she was expecting them. Something was wrong. Rook heard a crow and went “Caw, caw.” Raskin and Rasco found something out. Ravenwood was working with the Gorm! The crow left. They were surprised it wasn’t a Raven. They needed to escape.
Chapter Three
One-Ear
As the three finished their meal, Rasco spotted something. A Gorm helmet? She nudged Raskin hoping he would notice the trouble they’d gotten into. Nudge by nudge he finally noticed. Raskin started to pack up unnoticed. The guards came closer with a net in hand.
The two older rabbits looked around for an exit so they were ready to run. Rook was looking around too but not necessarily for an exit but just for food, the poor rabbit was so cold and hungry. Raskin and Rasco found a route. Rasco picked up Rook and the map, and Raskin got everything else.
They ran. Crashing into walls, running through crowds.
“SHUT THE GATES! ALL OF THEM!” Screamed guards from all around. Suddenly, Lady Black noticed. She got the Gorm soldier to stop them.
“Run, they’re catching up to us!” Shouted Raskin cautiously. Minutes later, the furry rabbits found the way, but the gate was closing.
Quickly, Rasco chucked Rook through and then made the jump herself. Then, Raskin jumped as quickly as possible, just making it through at the last minute. Apart from his ear. It was glued to the ground under the portcullis.
Without thinking, Rasco grabbed the knife and chopped off Raskins ear and patched it up with spider webs. They’re great use for situations like this!
Raskin was still conscious, luckily, but very weak. Rasco dragged him to the piek of Cranberry Cliffs. Then, Rasco heard a growl, she turned around. The Gorm leader- “Ironlake!”…
Chapter Four
A Remembered Soul
The three were blacked out. They blinked and blinked again. “Where are we?” Raskin Questioned being second to awake. He saw mud everywhere – but it was red… What could this mean? A few minutes later Rook woke up and squealed. The rabbits didn’t know where they were but they knew it had something to do with the Gorm.
Loud footsteps came closer to the cell. It was Ironlake. Ferociously, he opened the cell door and snatched Raskin by the ear. He closed the cell, making sure to lock it and put the keys on his belt. Without fail, Rasco grabbed the keys silently and successfully. It was their queue to escape but there was exactly 672 keys! Rasco knew this because there was a note saying ‘672 keys’, or did it say ‘Gorm keys’? It wasn’t very legible. Either way she knew there were a lot of them.
There was a weird noise from behind them but the older rabbit ignored it. Rasco chose a key and tried it. Then she knew it would take forever and they’d probably be dead by then. Unfortunately the bars were made of iron so she couldn’t cut it open… DING! An idea. She’d use a hair clip to pick the lock. It opened after 10 minutes, but then something dug a tunnel to the cell. A mole? Rasco and Rook hopped in. Fortunately there was a tunnel to the room Raskin was in! No one was there so they grabbed him and jumped down again. They ran to an exit as fast as possible.
It was the outside world! They ran and thanked the mole. Footsteps filled the silent noise. Ironlake was coming but Rasco didn’t notice. The Gorm leader was falling with a sword in hand aiming for Rasco.
“Rasco, NO!” Raisin pushed her out of the way and he was the victim now. He died. White snow turned red and Rook cried with Rasco…
