Outside, a jagged claw of lightning crackled across the sky and thunder rumbled  overhead. Inside, Jack staggered through the derelict building, scrambling desperately for somewhere to hide. Old timbers leaning at crazy angles, rusted crates piled high and discarded metal scattered everywhere. To his horror, he could just see there was no way out. Jack was trapped. 

Behind Jack, the armed soldier stood surrounded by light, in the doorway,a sword gleaming in his hand Jack gasped… 

…But at that moment, something growled deeper than thunder. Out of the darkness, one pair of brown eyes appeared, and the sharpest, white teeth. Whatever it was, rushed past jack.  

It was massive and black. Jack realised that he was standing beside a massive bear. It threw back its head and woofing. In that moment, the soldier had fled. Jack stood shocked to the spot, numb by fear.  

The bear turned and knelt down in front of Jack resting its head on the ground. The bear could see that Jack was injured. A gash of red ran across his side. Jack had never been so close to such a huge bear before.
