Chapter 2 –
Lalo stared closely at Maggie, her deep yellow eyes blazing like amber. Her orange fur and black stripes , as orange as autumn leaves. Maggie noticed her star-shaped claws as sharp as a tooth, whiskers ruffled messily outside her face. Her eyes twitched, sensing everything.
To her surprise , she opened her mouth widely, revealing curved pointed teeth as pointed as a pencil. She sniffed her face, then licked her hand with a sandpaper- like. Maggie froze to ice.
“ She likes you”, said Miss Daffodil, as the massive cat went into the bushes. On their way back to the village, the breeze was appealing in Hollow’s Acre as the sunlight glowed on a moonlight path Maggie stopped near a tree. Was someone spying on them? For a minute or two, she took a glance between the trees and bushes.
“ She’ll be watching,”nodded Miss Daffodil.“ I found her as a cub trying to survive the heatwave. Someone must have let her escape during the battle of tigers and lions . I took her home and looked after her. She’s a grown up tiger that is so strong! But no one must ever know- if they saw her, they’d battle her”.
That night, Maggie had a wonderful dream about Lalo, her yellow eyes lit up the dark, night sky. When she licked her hand and sniffed her face. She felt happy with her.
During the night, she visited her, bringing her leftovers of food. Maggie taught her how to set turtle traps, and sometimes she caught one , which Lalo would snatch to play with before going back into the bushes. She hunted deer, mice, bunnies and squirrels.
One evening, she let Maggie stroke her head. Soon, she was searching her pockets for food, smiling beautifully. And Maggie changed. She was no longer scoffing. Miss Daffodil heard her humming and whistling a tune while doing chores.
Through the summer day, she watched as the gigantic cat was licking her face as Maggie gave her a stroke under her chin. While having fun, birds were warbling, a colourful rainbow with so many colours and bees buzzing around.
