Why isn’t he mean? By Izzy

Why isn’t he mean

Last night was a mystery,I strolled down the peer of Barry Island, my dog Taffy following behind. I gazed at the sun, slowly sinking into the depths of the ocean as if the waves were pulling it down. A few birds passed overhead, singing songs of pure happiness. It was warm outside, a big contrast to the usual windy weather.

Taffy trailed of in her own direction, plodding along and enjoying the warmth. I however kept moving onwards, smiling at the sunset.

By now it was getting a little darker outside and the sun had fully sunk. The warm weather started to turn into a whispy wind. A smell of seafood danced in the air around me and managed to travel to my nose. I reeled back at the shocking stench, it was quite unexpected.

I called for Taffy but she didn’t come running back (as I expected), she fell asleep enjoying the temperature. And then it all started, out of the slight gloom I saw a silhouette, emerging from the glassy ocean. Teeth of daggers jutted out of its mouth, skin so slimy I gagged.

I caught a glimpse of its claws, before he hid them behind his back, looking a little guilty. I saw a little bit of sadness captured in his blue gaze. His arms were short but skinny, his legs on the other hand were long and large, keeping his very stable. I had never seen a creature nor animal like it! As I stood stuck to the ground I saw him bow his head as though he had done something wrong. I felt bad for this creature.

Taffy had woken up and started trotting towards me and the creature. Taffy had obviously caught his eye because he started waving a solemn goodbye and walked backwards. I wanted to scream out to him but I was speechless.

When I could move again I started walking back in the direction of my hut, confused but exited. Taffy once again followed behind yapping and wagging her tail. What had happened to that monster? Will I ever see it again? Why wasn’t it mean?

Last night the most incredible thing happened. I was walking along the sea wall of my local fishing town on my normal route along the beach after a long day on my shift at the fish and chip shop. The waves crashed against the sea wall and the tide slowly came in the cold breeze hit my face. I rapped up warm with my scarf , hat and gloves and carried on walking.

All I could smell was the scent of the orchard flowers from the graveyard my dad was buried in on rosemary topping hill that overlooked the bright blue ocean. A sound of a dog caught my attention as I watched it stride across the swell of the one fishing boats heading to sea out of the boat packed harbour.

I sat on the pair eating my last churro from the night beforehand keeping both eyes on the seagulls which were eyeing them. When a slightly big creature emerged from the sea bed stomping on past the smooth but crumbling rocks. It’s claws marked the sand pushing a storm of sand into the gloomy night of the ocean as its eyes daringly glared at my face. Roaring it kept going all the local fishing families where now out of there homes wondering what the sound was but thought nothing of it. Then it ran back into the shallow end of the ocean. I called the police immediately but they just had a laugh. I legged it back to my house it seemed like every living thing had fled.

Had I just seen the mythical creature from all the story books? Were the hundreds of legends true? I would never find out because no one would believe me. I just acted like nothing had ever happened that incredible night.

The Sea by Jess

The Sea

Yesterday morning, as the sun came up for air, I was going for a early walk  with Lola to clear my head. All I could smell was the left over fish and chips from last nights dinner. I sat on the sand and thought to myself as Lola played in the sea and got  wet.

Lola ran  through the rocks of Constantine Beach as I opened the Sailers caffe. Lola began digging through the sand for twigs and seaweed. I got a treat and gave it to her as I drank my morning coffee. I walked down towards the salty sea and see what Lola’s trying to find.

By now, it would be 6:30 in the morning when the sunlight was shinning in my face. I walked towards the pillars underneath the pier. I could smell a horrible smell coming from the caffe. It smelt like rotten octopus.

I could just about see, a monstrosity of a shape reflecting on the brim of the wall. It had; a slimy scaly tail, a slimy shaped body, shark like teeth and the most weirdest shaped head. It had devil like horns. It stared at me.

Lola sprinted over. She stopped, and 5en gave the biggest growl and she wouldn’t stop until the ‘ creature’ stepped back. It slithered back into the deep blue ocean.

It was never seen again.

Henry’s diary entry Friday 13th August 2021

Yesterday I was just having my usual evening walk along the coast of Brighton with my dog Woody. I threw his ball one last time and he kept up and caught it in midair. The weather was turning for the worst  so I decided to turn back and head for home when.I heard a whispering noise which seemed to be coming from underneath the cold wet sand.

Out of nowhere came a creature that I had  never heard or seen before. It had murky green eyes and large curved tusks. Its long wavy tenticals  seemed to float on the sand it also had dagger like teeth. It stared at me eagerly. I looked around no one else was here and Woody was nowhere to be seen. I sprinted away up of the beach and into the town.Could that have been the Sand Snatcher? Are the legends true?

June Kai’s diary entry-Tuesday 6th February 2022 By Lily H

Yesterday evening, the most perplexing thing happened to me. I shook the hideous leather sandals that my grandma had gifted me for my 13th birthday off of my feet and tossed them into the tide. The drenched sand  outlined my foot and grains of it stuck. I continued walking along the shore and got really irritated when the wind picked up and blew tousled strands of hair in front of my face; obstructing my vision. The air was ever so frosty and I regretted not bringing my coat.

I longed to explore the sea yet knew my mother would kill me if I did so instead, I edged towards the sooty pebbles.

By now, darkness was descending upon the beach and the sun was sinking below the murky water, leaving me with the feeling that something was off. Maybe it was the temperature; it was never really cold on the beach, or perhaps it was the figure I kept seeing that slipped in and out of the dark crevices of the cliff. Whatever it was, something was off. I grasped a rotten odour, wafting around my nose, as though it was mocking me. It smelt of fish, moulding fish.

All of a sudden, I felt an icy chill set, like a blanket, over my neck, causing the hairs to stand on end. A shiver sprinted down my spine and I gulped, unease rising to the top of my emotions. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a mysterious figure, lurking behind me. I whipped my head around and through the curtain of hair blocking my sight, I could just make out a slithering silhouette towering over me.

It’s eyes were crimson pools of blood and scarlet scales shimmered in the moonlight. I heard it’s hoarse breath and could have sworn I saw a flame flicker, momentarily, out of a nostril before it disappeared. The creature’s jaw protruded out for about a pan inch more than the rest of its head.

Before I knew what was happening, I felt sharp claws digging into my hips, drawing blood. I felt it gushing out of my sides and I screamed for help. It seemed as though nobody heard my cries until I caught sight of the boy that seeks fish and chips, stumbling down the sandy slope. As abruptly as it had appeared, the figure retreated back into the sea.

I raced across the shoreline and into the night. Had I just come face to face with the Apox? Were the ancient myths true?

Diary entry Joshua Y6JMPS

Last night I was walking back from the pub with my little brother Jimmy. Jimmy wanted to the beach because he could here the thunder crashing waves and he wanted to surf. When we got there there was a weird type creature with razor sharp teeth and saliva filled mouth. It was about 10x the size of an original cat. It had black and red scales with 10 dagger type claws. Jimmy smashed the fish and chips door open and hid behind the counter.

I was screaming to the top of my lungs, the creature had 5 legs with red and orange beastly eyes. It was looking right through me and it started going at approximately 100 mph I was trying to run for my life but I was to slow compared to the devastating creature. I suddenly lost him because he could smell fresh fish and chips It was nerve racking because I knew Jimmy was in there. I called the police department and they said they would be there right away. I went into the fish and chip shop to see if everything was alright and if Jimmy had been injured physically or mentally. The police finally showed up and I told them the whole story.

As I finished they were just laughing and thought I was joking. I told them repeatedly that I was being serious and that my 10 year old brother was in there with a massive beastly creature. They asked if there was any witnesses and I said no. As soon as I said that they decided to leave. And leave me to figure it out. Was it just my mind playing a trick on me? Was it a dream?
